Come and discover in legendary land

The legendary land of Lejre is located in the heart of Midtsjælland – just a short drive from Copenhagen. Here you can step directly into ancient times and experience the place where, according to myths and chronicles, the legendary Danish king Kong Skjold had his royal seat.

The Skjoldungs descended from the mythical King Skjold, who made Lejre the center of the first Danish kingdom.

In the Land of Legends you will encounter the living past up close: explore reconstructed Iron Age villages, Stone Age settlements, Viking halls and historic workshops, where fire, craftsmanship and daily life are brought to life.

In the surrounding landscape you will find hills, meadows and forests that form the natural setting for the many stories. Here you can hike, explore the world of the past or meet animal breeds that existed in Denmark thousands of years ago.

The Land of Legends Lejre is a living open-air museum where nature, archaeology and storytelling merge – and where you can experience what it was really like to live in ancient Denmark.

Experience the story, Live the adventure!

In the Land of Legends Lejre you can take a step into a world where the past is brought to life, and where kings, Vikings and Iron Age people still seem to breathe in the landscape.

This isn't just a visit - it's a journey back in time!

From the forest paths to the open fields, you move through historical reconstructions and landscapes that have witnessed millennia of life and stories.

Share the experience with other curious hikers, create memories together and feel the magic of walking directly into the Denmark of the past.

Look forward to a day where hiking and storytelling go hand in hand.

5 good reasons to get out into nature

Five research-based facts about,
what nature does to us, under the heading.

1: Nature provides peace

Nature makes us relax. In green areas, our blood pressure and heart rate drop, and the amount of the stress hormone cortisol is reduced in our saliva. When someone says they find peace in nature, they are talking about something.

2: Nature provides community

In nature, it is easy to create good relationships and social contact between people. It counteracts loneliness. Say hello to those you meet on your way.

3: Nature heals

Nature has a healing effect after illness and hospitalization. Research has shown, among other things, that patients who have a view of nature will, on average, feel less pain, recover faster, and use less medication.

4: Nature prevents

Spending time in green spaces can reduce the risk of developing type II diabetes, cardiovascular disease and asthma. The reason may be that green spaces invite physical activity. Many microorganisms found in nature have also been shown to play an important role in the development of a healthy immune system.

Here you will wander between historical reconstructions, old burial mounds, forests and fields, where the Denmark of the past is brought to life. The routes are planned with both nature experiences, historical impressions and small challenges along the way.

If you are not already spellbound by the Land of Legends Lejre, you will definitely be on your hike.

The routes will be marked with wire flags, so you can safely enjoy your route without having to look down at a phone all the time to find your way.

However, as an extra precaution, we recommend that you have downloaded the selected route to the Komoot app. Before starting, you will receive the route in GPS form, after which the app will show you the way with your phone, just like you know it from car navigation. Your mobile phone or GPS device will guide you through even the darkest forests without any problems.

With the right training, anything is possible. Longer trips are a lot about mindset and belief in your own abilities. Prepare yourself, spend time on training trips, get out into nature and feel what it can give you. Because it can give you a lot.

The training rides also help you gain experience in choosing shoes, socks, and what food your body works best with. As the difficulty and length of your training rides increase, your body also adapts to the distances and increased endurance demands.

Take note and choose the hours that suit you and your level of ambition.

We have placed the depot in the middle of Sagnlandet, so that you can walk past the depot on each round. There is also the possibility of visiting the toilet and refueling with water. The depot will have at least soda, coffee, fruit, vegetables, energy bars, mini salami, sweets, rye bread, toast with Nutella.

Required equipment: backpack, mobile phone, power bank, headlamp, water bottle/camel bag, overshirt.

In addition, it may be a good idea to bring an extra pair of socks as well as food and snacks.

If you have special needs, please bring your own food and drinks for safety reasons. You can see what we offer at the depot as a minimum under “ depot en route” .

If you are forced to abandon the hike, there are several places where you can shorten your trip and return to the start/finish line or head towards the depot.

Shortly after your registration, you will receive an order confirmation with a QR code. This code must be presented before starting in the starting area.
