Moesgaard Marchen – forest, coast and culture in the heart of East Jutland
The Moesgaard Marchen starts and ends at Moesgaard Strand and takes you through some of the most striking natural areas south of Aarhus – from Marselisborg and Hørhaven to Skåde Skov and Moesgaard.
You quickly move from open coastal stretches into the deep, green forests around Marselisborg Castle, where the landscape changes between wide forest roads and narrow paths under tall beech trees. Here you feel the contrast between the open horizon of the sea and the quiet weight of the forest.
The route continues through the atmospheric surroundings of Hørhaven and further into Skåde Skov, where winding paths and hilly terrain create variety and flow. Along the way, the landscape opens up in several places towards Aarhus Bay with views that give both the pace and the thoughts room to breathe.
Around Moesgaard you will encounter the area's living cultural history – from ancient paths to the iconic surroundings of Moesgaard Museum – where nature and history merge.
Magical Aarhus
Take a step into a world where the whisper of history and the beauty of nature merge just south of Aarhus. Moesgaard Marchen is not just a hike – it is a sensual journey through beech forests, along the coast and past places that carry centuries of stories.
From the quiet paths of Skåde Skov and Hørhaven to the open spaces at Moesgård and the fresh breeze of the coast, you will wander through a landscape where both nature and culture leave their mark. Feel the atmosphere around Marselisborg Castle, walk in the footsteps of the past and enjoy the tranquility where the forest meets the sea.
Here it's not just about kilometers, but about experiences – about sharing smiles with other hikers, feeling your body work and letting your thoughts wander freely under the shade of the treetops.
Whether you are an experienced hiker or simply looking for a special day in unique surroundings, you will find a route that suits you.

FAQ - Frequently asked questions
Here are a number of the typical questions we get. You can read much more about the trip and the preparations on the page worth knowing . Should you have any other questions, you are always welcome to contact us at kontakt@fremadmarch.dk.
The route
The routes go through the scenic areas south of Aarhus – from Marselisborg and Hørhaven to Skåde Skov and Moesgaard.
The routes are carefully planned with a focus on variety, nature experiences and historical surroundings that both inspire and challenge. Whether you are a local or a visitor, you will get a new perspective on the beautiful landscape around Aarhus.
The routes will be marked with wire flags, so you can safely enjoy your route without having to look down at a phone all the time to find your way.
However, as an extra precaution, we recommend that you have downloaded the selected route to the Komoot app. Before starting, you will receive the route in GPS form, after which the app will show you the way with your phone, just like you know it from car navigation. Your mobile phone or GPS device will guide you through even the darkest forests without any problems.
Which distance should I choose?
With the right training, anything is possible. Longer trips are a lot about mindset and belief in your own abilities. Prepare yourself, spend time on training trips, get out into nature and feel what it can give you. Because it can give you a lot.
The training rides also help you gain experience in choosing shoes, socks, and what food your body works best with. As the difficulty and length of your training rides increase, your body also adapts to the distances and increased endurance demands.
Take note and choose a distance that suits you and your level of ambition.
Depots along the way
We have placed the depots so that everyone has the opportunity to visit the toilet and refill water.
In addition, there will be soda, coffee, fruit, energy bars, mini salami, candy, rye bread, toast with Nutella and much more.
Equipment – what should I bring?
Required equipment: backpack, mobile phone, power bank, headlamp, water bottle/camel bag, overshirt.
In addition, it may be a good idea to bring an extra pair of socks as well as food and snacks.
Food – what should I bring?
If you have special needs, please bring your own food and drinks for safety reasons. You can see what we offer at the depots as a minimum under “depots along the way” .
Test what works for you on your training trips and make a meal plan for yourself. It may help to eat a rye bread snack every 2 hours. On long marches you will feel hungry, and it is important to force yourself to eat to give your body some energy to work with. Otherwise, your body can go cold.
What do I do if I get injured along the way or can't continue?
If you are forced to abandon the hike, there are several places where you can shorten your trip and return to the start/finish line or head towards the nearest depot.
Can I bring my dog?
Yes, it's perfectly okay to bring your dog as long as it is kept on a leash during the entire event.
You are responsible for your dog and for taking other participants and nature into consideration.
When will I receive information about the event?
Shortly after your registration, you will receive an order confirmation with a QR code. This code must be presented in the starting area before starting.
Approximately 7-10 days before the event, you will receive final instructions by email with practical information about the event and a route link to the route you have registered for.
What if I can't participate anyway?
The starting point is that if you become injured or ill, the buyer (participant) has no right of withdrawal, cf. the Consumer Agreement Act on Internet Commerce, as recreational leisure activities are not included in the agreement. Transfer of starting number can be done by sending an email to kontakt@fremadmarch.dk.
